The St. Louis Community College baseball team bounced back from a tough loss in game 2 of the Thursday doubleheader vs. Mineral Area on Sunday afternoon, by using the long ball and solid pitching in picking up a 10-2 victory over the Cardinals, to improve to 16-11 in Region 16 play.
Ben Stephens improved to 6-3 on the year as he threw 7 innings, while allowing only 2 hits and giving up only 2 unearned runs. Mineral Area scored an unearned run in the top of the second inning, but Jack Kane got the Archers going in the bottom half by hitting a three run home run to left giving the Archers a 3-1 lead and they built onto the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as they scored five more runs, highlighted by a two run home run by Neil Fischer to push the lead to 8-1. Mineral Area scored an unearned run in the top of the six, but in the bottom of the innings, Kane struck again as he hit a monster two run home run to right which gave the Archers the 10-2 lead.
The Archers return to action on Friday afternoon to face Three Rivers Community College on the Meramec campus, first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
