The St. Louis Community College baseball team used big innings on Thursday afternoon to complete a two game sweep over State Fair Community College on the Meramec campus, winning the opener 11-1 and 10-8 in the nightcap.
The Archers broke open a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the third inning by scoring ten runs in the frame.
Joey Reeves improved to 3-1 on the year by throwing 5 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run and striking out 4 Roadrunner hitters.
Offensively, the Archers got support throughout the lineup as Neil Fischer collected 2 hits and 3 rbi, Andrew Dupont and Austin DesRoche both added 2 hits while scoring 2 runs, Cole Dupont scored 2 runs, while Jack Kane, Kyle Stevens and Nate Hillermann both added 2 rbi, with Hillermann drive his runs in on a bases loaded double to break the game open in the decisive third inning.
The Archers found themselves down 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, but scored four runs in the fourth and then added five runs in the 6th innings to collect the 10-8 win and sweep in the first two games of the series.
Stevens and Chase Jones carried the big bats in game two, as Stevens went 3-5, with a double and 2 rbi and Jones had 2 hits including a triple, scored 3 runs and added 2 rbi. Zachary Hunter contributed 2 rbi in the win, while Hillermann added a double and scored 2 runs, Jeff Huser and Kane each scored 2 runs as well as the middle of the lineup helped carry STLCC to victory.
Andrew Basler picked up his first win of the year by throwing 2 innings in relief, while Joseph Manley picked up his first save of the year by collecting 2 strikeouts in the 9th inning.
The Archers, who improve to 12-7 and 10-0 in Region 16 play, travel to State Fair Community College for a 1:00 pm doubleheader on Saturday.
