Archers softball splits season opener with SWIC

The Archers softball team opened up the 2016 season today with a doubleheader split against SWIC, losing the first game 13-4 and winning the second game 11-5 on the Meramec campus.  Abbey Holtkamp collected three hits, including a double, Tayler Augustinas added two of her own and Kadi Starms picked up two RBI on a double to the fence in right center field.  The Archers put pressure on SWIC throughout the game, but could not get a big hit when needed and left ten runners on base.

During the second game, the Archers found ways to get runs across early and often.  Kelsey Brodbeck collected three hits, scored three runs and swiped four bases to set the table for the middle of the order.  Liz Miller (a double and triple), Tayler Augustinas (two doubles) and Madison Sundling (a single and a homerun) added two hits each.  Abbey Holtkamp connected on her first homerun of the season as well, as the Archers collected six extra base hits in game two.  Tiffany Link collected her first win of the season in circle, throwing six innings on a tough day to pitch.

The Archers return to diamond on Wednesday at 2:00 pm for a doubleheader at Kaskaskia College.
