St. Louis Community College Dominates West Kentucky Community & Technical College
In a powerful season debut, the St. Louis Community College (STLCC) Archers men's basketball team delivered a commanding 94-61 win over West Kentucky Community & Technical College on Saturday, November 1, at the Forest Park Campus gym.
After trailing by 10 points early in the contest, the Archers surged ahead with a 19-3 run, sparked by freshman Zach Winkeler's nine first-half points off the bench. STLCC entered halftime with a 35-31 lead and never looked back, outscoring the visiting Stars 59-30 in the second half.
Winkeler led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range. Sophomore CJ Lang anchored the team with seven assists and seven rebounds, contributing eight points in a well-rounded performance. The Archers showcased their offensive efficiency, shooting 55% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc, while also recording 22 assists and limiting turnovers to just 13.
"We were a step slow defensively throughout much of the game," said Head Coach Terry Collins. "But we overcame the early deficit with unselfish play on the offensive end, which led to efficient possessions. All twelve players who logged minutes scored, so we were good at sharing the ball."
The game was played cleanly, with no technical fouls issued, and STLCC's defensive efforts were evident in their 40 rebounds and ability to contain West Kentucky's offense.
The Archers return to action on Wednesday, November 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the second half of a men's and women's doubleheader against Rend Lake College, again at the Forest Park Campus gym.
