STLCC Men’s Soccer Crowned Region 16 Champions; Coach Garza Named Region 16 Coach of the Year
St. Louis Community College (STLCC) Men's Soccer team has claimed the Region 16 Championship title following a dramatic 3-2 victory over Mineral Area College on November 1, 2025, at Kirkwood High School. The win secures STLCC's place as host of the upcoming Central District Tournament, which will be held November 7–8 on the Florissant Valley campus.
The championship match was a showcase of grit and talent. STLCC surged ahead early with two unassisted goals by Felipe Alcantara Sampaio Gilberti in the 7th and 22nd minutes. The momentum continued into the second half as Joao Victor Gonzaga Ribeiro added a third goal at the 53rd minute. Despite a late rally by Mineral Area College, scoring in the 84th and 86th minutes, STLCC held firm to secure the win.
The match featured equal shot attempts (4 each), but STLCC proved more clinical in front of goal. Goalkeeper Antonin Louis Didier Le Gall made two key saves, while Mineral Area's Pedro Jarvie recorded four.
In recognition of his leadership and success, Coach Garza has been named Region 16 Coach of the Year, a testament to his dedication and the team's outstanding performance throughout the season.
Coach Garza praised his team's tactical execution and resilience:
"Our ability to move the ball and keep constant pressure on the opposing defense has been a key part of our success," he said. "Our defensive line is one of the toughest around, and we've played a very challenging schedule to prepare us for the intensity of the district tournament. I'm proud of how this team continues to rise to the occasion."
